ABOUT ME
My name is Andrew Rodriguez and I am a DESIGNER. I have over 15 years of experience in graphic design and video editing proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite and more recently, 3D design in Blender. I began my design journey in high school where I took a class in digital design learning Adobe Fireworks, then eventually Photoshop and Illustrator. This is also where I used my talents to hand paint shirts for classmates and friends as a side hustle during these more formative years. My passion for design came from my realization of the need to translate ideas into a visual format. Down the road I was able to acquire video editing skills in Adobe Premiere and After Effects for a more effective work flow of capabilities in Adobe Creative Suite. Blender 3D Software became my next format to tackle as I began wanting to include additional 3D layering into my design and editing work.
My first job in design was at a t-shirt print shop in San Diego specializing in garment prints and apparel design. As a designer, our responsibilities included working with clients and consulting with them on different print formats for clothing and apparel design. My primary skills included graphic design, print machine/equipment operation, file organization and formatting for different applications including screen print, direct-to-garment (DTG) print, embroidery, and vinyl heat press. Our shop worked with clients on everything from one-off prints for single day events to company work attire and local clothing companies. This is where I learned a bulk of design and how to set up files for different print applications. I would eventually take what I learned to start my own clothing and design company to work more directly with clients as a freelancer. I have worked with a number of companies/organizations including restaurants, clothing brands, event promotion companies, sports teams/leagues/organizations, dispensaries, pin companies, and non-profit organizations. This allowed me to recognize both the minor and major differences in the types of visuals and media each industry tends to seek out as I respected the idea of each client/company having different tastes and needs.
My objective is to translate ideas into both digital and physical items that allow audiences to correlate directly with brands, companies, and organizations. I believe that the relatable aspects of design to the life we experience are what make any art form a viable and prominent part of culture. Being able to communicate an idea is a very important piece of connecting and collaboration. My medium is visual design. I would love to share this journey with you.
